A Slower Day in Killarney ( caution: race traffic ahead)
Our first day in Killarney began waking in our second AirBnB rental. Coffee and breakfast treats courtesy of our host, then off to visit Muckross House. A storied estate holding passed from privileged and storied families century to century. The house and gardens now run on behalf of the Irish people, provides a view into life of the gentry much like those of Downton Abbey. The gardens and extensive arboretum are well maintained as are the adjacent national park trails. For those of interest, horse-drawn carriages lead visitors across the grounds.
And of course, in welcoming our visit, we've received an invite, a century late, to dine with Queen Victoria on her visit:
A menu fit for a King. AHEM , I mean Queen:
Accommodations throughout are fairly rich as well. Altho, I'd no doubt need to pass on kitchen duties…
As for the wine cellar, we be happy to partake..
Staffing the gardens probably required a staffing as large as the household…
After dinner, a buggy ride with scenery none can surpass…
A short trail to the edge of the estate leads to Torc Falls, destination for every tour group in town…..
Socializing settled, next stop a pub lunch in downtown Killarney. A quaint village, again with a pub and bar sufficient for any inflow of visitors.
I'll leave this scene to your imagination…
A stroll about town, weather holding quite nicely…
.
Back shortly no doubt. Till then we moo-st be diving on. Horse racing in town has really clogged the roads this week.
